about

FOR FANS OF: Antonymes, R. Seiliog, Group Listening, Mogwai, The Cure, Boards of Canada, Gerard Cousins and Brian Eno.
RECOMMENDED FOR RADIO: 10, 5, 6, 9

My name is Adam Walton. I’m from Yr Wyddgrug (Mold) in north Wales.

Inspired by the atmospheric sketches on my album ‘Afal’ - and intended to be a bridging point between that and my forthcoming album ‘Moment in the Light’ - welcome to ‘Looms (Qt)’, a collection of instrumental / ambient / field and classical recordings sketched together in my bedroom over the last couple of years.

I hope the recordings soothe without being too airy or obvious. I wanted to span everything from traditional instruments - classical guitar and kalimba - to the universes of opportunity and inspiration opened up by my synths and effects pedals.

Hopefully the boundaries between all of the tools have been blurred and smeared beyond obvious recognition.

It’s not an album of immediate pleasures. Much of it (apart from the classical guitar recordings) was improvised and built in layers, intended to be listened to quietly, so the music can insinuate itself and calm the soul.

My inspirations were recordings by Antonymes, Group Listening, Mogwai, Accu, King Biscuit Time, Graham Devine, Gareth Bonello, Gwenno, Brian Eno, Barrios, The Cure, Boards of Canada, Gerard Cousins, knobs, and the abstract paintings of Rebecca Anne Stickels.

Rebecca is from Wrexham and I'm a long-standing fan of her paintings and photography. In her own words: “I am a self-taught, intuitive, spontaneous, playful and outsider-y artist sponsored by nature, illness, isolation, dreams, the subconscious and hope.”

To coincide with the album release, I have a limited edition of 20 high quality A3 art prints of the watercolour painting used in the cover art for 'Looms' on heavy stock (250-300 gsm) matte paper.

You can buy a print from the merch page here on bandcamp.

Please do check out her other paintings: they’re a celebration of colour, striking and original:
