My name is Adam Walton. I’m from Mold in north Wales.
‘Cornelian’ is the final single release from my current album ‘Afal’.
I’ve been moved hugely by the response to ‘Afal’ since its release at the end of April. The album hasn’t sold in large numbers and the streaming figures are literally humbling, but the emails, messages, reviews and conversations have shown me that ‘Afal’ is being appreciated by people all over the world and that the songs haven’t fallen on stony ground.
That means the world to me and it’s more than I could have hoped for or anticipated.
A sincere thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to listen.
The emails, messages and conversations mentioned above have almost all mentioned ‘Cornelian’ as being the quiet heart of ‘Afal’. That was very much the case for me, too. I don’t know what the song is about specifically. It’s a sadness and an empathy, a hand in the darkness… something like that.
The title song is accompanied by a b-side exclusive to this release. ‘Amethyst’ is musically inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s founder and original genius, Peter Green. He’s the most lyrical and evocative guitarist of his era, to my ears and heart. The instrumental in the middle of the song is very much a tribute to Green. I hope he’s listening somewhere and nodding with approval.
The single release also features two new impressionistic instrumental sketches.
These snapshots were intended to bring a variety of moods and textures to the album, outside of the more traditional folkish acoustic timbres of the songs themselves.
I will be releasing an album of previously unused instrumentals in due course.
Thank you for listening / diolch am wrando.
The single is available now via all the usual streaming / download outlets.
Vinyl copies of ‘Afal’ are available as a limited edition black vinyl LP (300 copies) from bandcamp.
